It’s been one year since recreational cannabis became legal in Canada to sale and purchase dried and fresh cannabis, oil, seeds and plants. Now, legalization 2.0 has finally arrived.
Edibles, extracts and topicals are now legal to sell as of Thursday, October 17th 2019 but won’t be available for at least 60 days, mid-December 2019 to allow Health Canada to review and approve products.
In agreement with strictly enforced regulations, each cannabis-infused product will be allowed to contain up to 10 mg of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) per single-serving package (or can, in the case of a drink.)
There is also a 10 mg THC limit per unit for ingestible extracts, with 1000 mg cap per package. The 1000 mg THC cap per package also applies to topicals (e.g. skin creams) an inhalable extracts like dabs.
Products can’t contain nicotine or alcohol and cannot appeal to children.
Packaging must be plain and child-resistant and no elements can be associated with alcohol.
All other laws and regulations around cannabis-impaired driving, minors possessing cannabis, and consuming cannabis in vehicles apply to edibles as well.
