Decarboxylated Cannabis
Ingredients
- 1/4 oz cannabis dry flower 7 g = 1 cup equivalent
- baking pan
- parchment paper optional
- food processor or grinder optional
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 240°F (116°C).
- Break apart any large buds by rubber them up between your hands or use a grinder or food processor (to save time).
- Spread out over a baking pan to fit nicely and give it a shake to toast evenly throughout.
- Place in the oven. Keep an eye to figure out the way your oven works the first time you decarb cannabis. Take a peak after 20 min, 30 and 40 to 50 minutes till it gets from vibrant green to nice toasted golden brown. Avoid opening the oven all way down.
- Remove and allow to cool completely. Use immediately or store in a mason jar or airtight container in the freezer or cool, dark place up to 2 months.
Notes
- The “decarbing” process ensures that cannabis’s psychoactive compounds are released and available. This also happens naturally when you smoke or vape the plant, but when ingesting marijuana, decarbing should be a first step for the best effects.
- If first time consuming edibles, start with low THC strains, consume low amounts and wait until 1 hour to feel the effect.
- At the end you have one ounce of activated cannabis and you are ready to go with cannabis oil, cannabis butter, cannabis coconut oil, cannabis flour to have then an activated form to cook with, to bake with or to sauté with.
- When you decarboxylate at a low temperature you are preserving the most terpenes, a.k.a. the oils in the marijuana that inform the flavor profiles of the cannabis as well as some of the health benefits.
- You can use more or less than an ounce of cannabis when decarbing, as long as it fits on your baking sheet without spilling or piling up.
- If your cannabis contains more THC bake at 250°F for 20-30 minutes. If contains more CBD bake at 275°F for 45 minutes.
- When properly decarbed, cannabis should be light to medium brown in color.
- Make sure your cannabis is ground into small pieces and spread out evenly or else some pieces may decarb more than others.
- You can tell when the cannabis is almost finished decarbing once your oven starts to emit a scent.
- If you live in an apartment, you can turn on the exhaust fan and put a towel underneath the door to minimize the smell.
- To avoid smell use one of our products Magical Butter Decarbox & Thermometer
